Rohtang Pass – One of its kind

Himalayas Rohtang Pass is a tall mountain pass positioned on the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas and are approximately 51 km far from Manali. We reached the rohtang pass through Manali-Leh Highway, a part of NH 21 that transverses Rohtang Pass. Rohtang pass has a beautiful outstanding fragmentation amid the humid Kullu Valley that denotes predominantly Hindu culture in the southern region along with the arid high-altitude Lahaul and Spiti valleys that depicts a Buddhist culture located in the northern region. It beautifully sleeps on the watershed between the Chenab and Beas basins.

Location

Rohtang Pass is situated 51 km from Manali on highway to Leh. It bids a panoramic and striking mountain view.

 

 

 

Time to travel

For the travellers who are wishing to travel to himalayas, speially rohtang please note that the pass is open from May to November. For the period apart from this, it is covered with mountains and the roads are blocked and closed that makes it inaccessible for the travelers. it is rather dangerous due to unpredictable snowstorms and blizzards.

Taxi is allowed only till snow point. Only limited vehicles are allowed per day. it is more viable to book your Rohtang tour in advance and start as soon as the dawn falls. People who love trekking take their icycles from manali but things should be checked and booked well in advance due to random snowstorm and unpredictable weather.

Climate

The preeminent time to visit Rohtang pass is May to October. The weather of Rohtang Pass is always cool but rigid. A swift drop in the temperature, even in summer, can trigger winter-like conditions.

About

Rohtang Pass is a high mountain pass on the Pir Panjal Range. It connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys of Himachal Pradesh. The pass is open from June to October.

 

There are a beautiful sight of glaciers. the water oozing from the glacier would pass and splash throughyour cars. the sight and the feel is breath taking.The length of the pass is around 1 km. the little lake called Sar Kund lies on the left of the pass around five hundered feet high.

Though the site being so beautiful and panaromic, people could not visit the pass on the other time of the year. Keeping this thing in mind, the government began building the long Rohtang Tunnel. It will be the most accesible and will reduce the travel time. We enjoyed the entire road way which kept on circling like a serpent. Not to forget that Rohtang Pass is the highest jeepable road in the World. Places to visit around Rohtang pass

Kothi

This is theoretically the paramount village on the banks of Beas river. Kothi is situated at 15 kms from Manali. The area is stunning and many hotels are accessible for refreshments.

 

Nehru Kund

Nehru Kund is favorite place of Pandit Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru .This place is named as Nehru Kund. we can see pure water rushing out of rocks. According to local belief the water has shown medicinal effect. It is 7 km far from Manali.

 

Gulaba

This place is one of the best picnic spot. It is initial point for Brighu lake trekking. It is filled with beautiful flowers. Gulaba is located 20 kms from Manali. When the Rotang pass is padlocked in winter season this is a decent place to enjoy snow. Gulaba is around 4-5 kms from Kothi. Gulaba has snow almost all year. Solang valley-one of the best point for breathtaking view is  based 4 km off the way to Gulaba.

While our way round the mountain we could catch a glimpse of wild ass. Wonder, how lucky there were to be here to enjoy the most beautiful atmosphere and view on the earth, away from the human interference.

You would get access of dhabas ‘places to eat’ randomly. We stopped to have the breathtaking view of the moutains and rivers. I could connect myself back the mother nature, I could feel the purity in air. Pure air, right- that is the reason people living in Himalayan region do not get ick more often and are healthy. I could see the beautiful landscape crowing the sky light.

Laghu ungla is the last point and then, begins the indus valley at the altitude of 17000 feet.

Best accessible way

Rohtang Pass is accessible by roads from Kullu and Manali. Joginder Nagar is the adjoining railway station which is round 103 km from Rohtang Pass and 50 km from Manali. The nearest airport is in Bhuntar about 104 km from Rohtang Pass. Rohtang Pass is well allied by HRTC buses. HRTC and private operators runs both air conditioned and non air conditioned deluxe coaches.
